Synopsis
The third edition was motivated by the following
developments in the real-time domain:
- The emergence of Java as a real-time language
through the Real-Time Java extensions. This has resulted in the treatment
of Java as one of the core languages covered in the book.
- The addition of new real-time facilities into
the POSIX standard; in particular Execution Time Monitoring and Sporadic Servers.
Chapters 12 and 13 have been updated to reflect these changes to the
Standard.
- The proposed extensions to CORBA to address
real-time issues. CORBA is clearly a major topic in its own right, and it
is beyond the scope of this book to address the topic in detail. However,
Chapter 14 has been updated to reflect the CORBA approach.
- The amount of scheduling material has been
increased significantly; in particular EDF is now considered.
