Dr Ruttun research interests centre scholarship of teaching, examining how students learn effectively and how teaching influences this process. Additionally, he is considering different student learning styles in designing instructions, and assessments. His aims are to conduct classroom research and using the results to modify teaching.
His research has also focused in Human Computer Interaction, addressing web-based learning systems, individual differences - particularly cognitive styles, domain knowledge, gender, disabilities - visual and audio instructional aids (speech and non-speech sounds), multimedia, disorientation, learning performance and learner attitudes in Higher Education (HE).
