I'm a researcher studying software-driven technology innovation in multi-disciplinary fields. In my current work I study design and new product development in the creative sector, and in previous projects I've looked at design in cyber-physical systems.

Currently I work at DC Labs in York, where I focus on:
* innovation and R&D practices in the creative sector
* the role played by the creative sector in the regional innovation system
* whole systems viewpoints that take into account the holistic environment

I have a background in Computer Science, with a PhD in empirical techniques examining early stage software engineering design. As a postdoctoral researcher in CS I've contributed to many large-scale international research projects studying early-stage design with techniques and methods that span engineering and technical disciplines and organisational boundaries. Over my career I've worked in academic research as well as in commercial applications, specialising in software and system design.

Qualifications

As a postdoctoral researcher I've specialised in modelling techniques for systems of systems and practical applications of emerging and innovative technologies.

I worked on the EU-funded COMPASS project, evaluating new systems engineering methods designed to model systems of systems, as well as producing roadmaps for systems of systems research. I've also supported collaborative projects that developed tools and methods for developers and engineers to co-operate in the early design stages of cyber-physical systems.

As part of the EU-funded Road2CPS project I was part of an international team that worked with practitioners and researchers from a variety of sectors to deliver a strategic research agenda for Cyber-Physical Systems research in Europe. I'm a member of the International Council of Systems Engineering (INCOSE), and an active contributor to INCOSE's Systems of Systems Working Group.
