Software-Defined Networking Security
Dr Vasileios Vasilakis and his team of students have designed and implemented a computer networks defence solution based on recent and rapidly developing technology of software-defined networking (SDN).
The system effectively detects ransomware attacks (e.g., WannaCry, BadRabbit, and other), denial-of-service attacks on network infrastructure, application-layer attacks (e.g., SQL injections, cross-site scripting, and other), and reconnaissance attacks, preventing the adversary from gathering useful information about the target before launching the actual attack. This long-standing R&D activity has resulted in several academic publications CAEE 2019, JNCA 2019, CAEE 2021, IEEE Access 2021, and contributed to the IET book series on computing and networks.
